Aya Atoui, a Dubai based Lebanese photographer, is one of the winning artists of the Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award for 2011, while still completing her final year at the American University of Dubai. Exhibiting in Dubai and New York in 2009 established the narrative of her current work that examines the self by studying others. While her primary objective is to explore the boundaries of photographic technique, her lens captures unique personal stories through the expressions and the posturing of her subjects, or the settings in which she situates them. Her goal is to discuss the ephemeral nature of life through her images, and to this end, she has done site-specific installations by temporarily projecting her images on alternative sites in public spaces.
